Gardening Supply
Basic Supplies... Where to begin? You need everything but only have a budget for some things. Don't worry... get your basics first, then start on your wish list. You'll need a good shovel or spade, a pitch fork, rake, trowel set, and a wheelbarrow will come in handy as well to haul away all the debris that results from breaking new ground, weeding, etc., etc. Now if you don't have a good strong back, I highly recommend getting yourself the 'tools of the trade', so to speak. Tillers and
electric cultivators
will make your job much faster, easier and save your back.
Once your flower bed or veggie garden is dug and planted, the trowel set will become invaluable to you, so I'm personally recommending the one from Yardiac.com shown here - it's a good set:

You can buy your garden tools individually as you can afford them, but every gardener needs the basics sooner than later, unless you can borrow the tools indefinitely! I've listed a few, very reputable garden supply merchants whose wares you can browse at your leisure, but be sure to check online prices against local merchants first, to see who has the best deals. Sometimes the online buy is the best deal, even with shipping factored in and a wonderful resource when you can't find what you want locally.
Once you have your basic tools, then your gardening supply wish list will inevitably grow... The size of your garden will grow and flourish according to how you prioritize your wish list. Keeping your tools in good shape and organized should be high on your priority list, so consider investing in an organizing rack and cleaning oil. If you can afford it, a garden shed is a must have for the serious gardener because having your own place to store your "stuff" will make your life so much simpler. If you have kids... put a lock on it!
The next thing that should be very high on the garden supply priority list is a good composter and an aerator to go with it. Having rich compost available to mix into your planting beds is one of the best ways to keep your garden healthy and looking it's best. You'll never want to buy chemical fertilizers again when you have your own compost to use whenever you need it.
After your garden has been tilled, planted and enjoyed, and fall is fast disappearing, you'll need to think about putting your garden to bed for the winter. There are many chores that need to be done throughout late fall, winter and early spring, pruning being one of the most important.
